Michael Huebner

DIRECTOR OF BANDS

Michael Huebner joined the faculty at Kennesaw Mountain High School in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2009 and currently serves as the Director of Bands. His duties include instructing three concert ensembles, marching band, jazz band, musical pit orchestra, and AP Music Theory. Kennesaw Mountain’s Marching Band is a past regional and national finalist at Bands of America Championship Event being named the Class AAA Grand National Champion in 2012 and 2014. Under Michael’s direction, Kennesaw Mountain’s Pit Orchestra received a Best Orchestra “Shuler Award” at the 2016 ceremony. Prior to employment in the Cobb County School District, Michael taught middle school and high school music in Ohio.

Michael graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in 2008 and completed his Master’s Degree in Music Education at Boston University in 2015. He is an active educational adjudicator and clinician presenting clinics around the world, most recently at St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Kuching, Malaysia. After marching multiple years in Drum Corps International, Michael taught the Bluecoats and Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. Michael is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educations Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Pi Kappa Lambda.

Corey Futrell

Associate DIRECTOR OF BANDS

Corey Futrell is the Associate Director of Bands at Kennesaw Mountain High School. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Central Florida. While serving as a band director, Corey has also worked with various programs across the Southeast and Midwest, as well as consulting for marching and concert programs. Corey adjudicates for various marching band shows and concert festivals nationally.

In 2007, Corey joined Carolina Crown as a brass instructor, and has been a part of the team that achieved the Jim Ott in 2009, 2011-2013, and 2016, including the drum corps first ever DCI World Championship in 2013. Corey’s drum corps career also included marching for Carolina Crown in 2001 and 2003. Corey was a member of the music staff for the BOA Music Summer Symposium in 2012.

Although Corey has many important duties with his school, his most important job is being a good husband to his wife Amanda and a good father to his son Ethan and daughter Emily, who all enjoy spending time together at Disney World!
