Since the school opened in 2000, the Kennesaw Mountain High School (KMHS) Band has become a nationally recognized music ensemble, both in Marching and Concert programs, complimented by an award-winning auxiliary Guard program. The band consists of over 200 student musicians and auxiliaries representing the Kennesaw Mountain High School cluster in west Cobb County, Georgia. The band is under the direction of David McGrath, Michael Huebner, Max Mullinix and Adam Sage.

The Kennesaw Mountain High School Band is a Class AAA participant in Bands of America (BOA) events, most recently finishing 3rd place at the 2011 BOA Atlanta Super Regional Championship Competition and 6th place at the 2010 BOA Grand National Championship Competition. Kennesaw Mountain has a tradition of excellence in musical development and leadership and has been asked to participate in such notable events as the Macy’s Parade, Citrus Bowl and Western Carolina University Tournament of Champions.

The band is committed to local participation in community programs, including parades and sponsorship of musical events, working frequently with peer high schools and related sponsored events. KMHS Band annually sponsors and hosts the Kennesaw Mountain Music Invitational (KMMI), an event that invites bands throughout Southern Region to compete in a preliminary competition that serves as both a learning experience and a good precursor to larger competitive venues.

During the 2012-2013 school year Kennesaw Mountain participated in both the Bands of America Atlanta Super Regional Championship Competition in Atlanta, GA and the BOA Grand National Championship Competition held at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN, in addition to several local events.

Kennesaw Mountain is proud of its music history and proud to represent the Kennesaw Mountain cluster in its continuing endeavor to bring music into the lives of high school students, providing positive experiences for growth and leadership.
