Dear KMBO family,
It is with GREAT honor that I announce your new Director of Bands at Kennesaw Mountain High School…
Mr. David McGrath, currently Director of Bands at Kell High School, was named our new Director by Dr. Kevin Daniel on Monday of this week. I am THRILLED at this appointment and know he is EXACTLY what Kennesaw Mountain needs, as well as deserves. Mr. McGrath and I have been colleagues as well as friends for several years, even before he moved to Cobb County 9 years ago to open Kell High School. I applaud Dr. Daniel, Mrs. Garner, Mr. Dunn and Mr. Markham on their hard work to fill my position and feel that have made an exemplary decision.
I met with the students this morning and delivered the news to them, letting them know of the admiration I have for Mr. McGrath’s work at Kell High School as well as his work while at Plymouth-Canton High School in Michigan. He is in constant demand nationally as an adjudicator, guest conductor and clinician. To this end, he will continue to bring a national prestige and perspective to the Kennesaw Mountain program that is so vital to our history and future existence. Again, I believe our administrative team did a wonderful job in matching the needs and commonality of what our program is built upon and truly thank them for their effort and consideration in the hiring of my replacement.
Now…let’s meet him!
On Friday of this week at 7:50am, he will be in our band room to speak to the kids and have a chance to meet them. After which, he will tour our middle schools, Pine Mountain and McClure, to meet the upcoming 9th graders.
On Monday night May 23rd, we will hold a reception for him, where I would like parents and students to drop by and say hello as well as hear him deliver words to us. This will take place at 7PM in the band room. Let’s honor his appointment and welcome him to the “Kennesaw Mountain Family,” with great attendance on Monday night!
Please find Mr. McGrath’s bio posted below.
I look forward to watching the band program continue to grow and flourish under his direction. He is truly one of the best in the nation and he can now call Kennesaw Mountain High School…”Home!”
