A native of Marietta, Georgia, Mitch Birnbaum graduated from The University of Georgia with a Bachelors degree in Music Education. While at UGA, he served two years as Drum Major for the Redcoat marching band, studied clarinet with Dr. D. Ray McClellan, and studied conducting under the direction of Dr. John Culvahouse and Dr. David F. Romines. Mr. Birnbaum was also a conductor for the Cavaliers drum and bugle corps in 2001 and 2003.

Prior to his appointment at Kennesaw Mountain High School, Mr. Birnbaum taught as assistant director at Shiloh High School in Gwinnett County, where he assisted in the growth of the program and directed the concert and symphonic bands towards achieving ’superior’ ratings. Mr. Birnbaum also designs and instructs winter guard programs and has led Central Gwinnett, Starr’s Mill, and Shiloh high school to becoming class champions in 2003, 2005, and 2006. He remains an active clinician and adjudicator, teaches private clarinet and conducting lessons, designs and instructs winter guard programs as well as designs marching band shows throughout the southeast.

Mr. Birnbaum is a member of Georgia Music Educator’s Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and has been selected for inclusion in the 2006 and 2007 editions of Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Mr. Birnbaum is entering his fourth year as a music educator and looks forward to bringing his experiences to the Kennesaw Mountain students and community.
