The Kennesaw Mountain band program is dedicated to excellence and innovation, and the marching band is no exception. Beginning at the end of every spring semester with leadership training and rookie camp, the Kennesaw Mountain marching band strives to set new standards for the marching band community. The philosophy that the marching band has developed in its short existence is one of pride and integrity. Putting on a great show every year is always the focus, but there is a constant emphasis on character building, teamwork, and leadership.
The effort involved in putting together a successful marching band is infinite. The directors and staff log countless hours in order to help the students reach their potential as musicians and people. The students dedicate three afternoons a week to rehearsals, and every Friday night is spent supporting the football team in the stands and at half time. In addition, one Saturday a month is set aside for an all-day rehearsal. The work ethic and intensity shown at every rehearsal is proof that it is truly the journey that makes the difference.
For the past four years the marching band has participated in Bands of America competitions around the country. These venues allow the marching band to perform for thousands of fellow music lovers from all around. The ability to entertain and convey a message to the crowd is an aspect of marching band that ranks highly in the hearts of the students and staff. The recent success of the program is attributed to all of these things, but the most important factor is definitely the love for the activity shared by all of those who contribute to the Kennesaw Mountain marching band. After all, “Your love is your life.”
